sehwag, too, in the same period has a deceptive average of 40.9 (409 in 11 inn, 1 inn not out)
Take 254-on-a-featherbed away and the avg reduces to a paltry 17.3
sachin's decline is not "as serious" as viru's , just because viru is supposed to be our "long term prospect" and "future captain".

(btw, one might have some crappy arguments about how worthy that 254 was. plz give me a break in advance. anybody and everybody scored there....)

Will get to the 254-issue later. First your point is VS averages 17.3 while SRT averages 19. How then is Sachin's decline not "as serious" ? At best it is equal for all practical purposes.

FYI I do think VS has a long career ahead of him but I dont really think of him as a future captain.

Now coming to the 254, I fail to see how anybody and everybody scored there arguement makes it a worthless innings.

i have given reason why its not "as serious"
if viru is not meant to be future captain, why the hell is he vice-captain (or captain when RD isnt there?)

and about 254, its a worthless inning coz its part of a worthless match. the match was worthless because...... well, i dont think i need to explain that! anyone with proper cricketing sense should realise that such matches are a blot on test cricket...

OK. Sehwag is vice-captain now because he is probably the seniormost among the next generation cricketers. He could well be in the selectors mind as future skipper but Im not too sure about that. Personally Im not too convinced of it nor do I think there is any need to look that far ahead as of now.

I dont think that Lahore match was as worthless as you make out to be. It was not like some of those Antigua games. In fact when Pak put up that big score I was seriously worried that it might go the way of Multan 2004. If someone from Pak had got in a big innings at Multan 2004 we might well be saying that that was a worthless test as well. So all in all I do think it was a top innings.

I guess its time for SRT to retire from the test team.He can play in the one day team till the world cup .But i think he has achieved everything in he wanted in test cricket , ie the most no of hundreds most matches played. So i guess its better he retires now.Maybe the selectors can get him back for one more home test series so that he can have a steve waugh type farewell. He has been a great player and its only fair that he bows out of test cricket in a honorable manner.Of course he should still continue to play one day cricket though.
