Good News

Somnath Chatterjee, the Honorable Speaker of the Lok Sabha has more pressing matters to look into so that hopefully he will forget about his rather ridiculous idea of discussing Sourav Ganguly in the Parliament.
From DNA, I quote:
Stung by the exposé, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee is likely to ask the five-member house committee set up to probe the question scandal to inquire into the MPLADS scandal also. The committee has to submit its final report on the first sting by Wednesday.

Chatterjee said, “If the allegations are found to be true, consequences will follow.”

He will discuss the scandal and remedial action on Tuesday morning with the floor
leaders of various parties. Already, Samajwadi general secretary Amar Singh
has asked his party’s MP Yadav to quit
That should keep him busy for a while :-)

a more important problem doesn't solve a less important one. it merely delays the solution of latter. and to hope/seek for such delay is the way of cowards who dont want to solve it

omkar,
quick request. it is all great to talk in general philosophical terms and all but it makes it just a bit difficult to discuss the core issue on the blog. i gather that whatever your philosophical sounding comment intended to say was this:

"the SG issue will still be discussed in Parliament after the other issue is resolved." isn't it ??

well assuming that is the case, let me respond. firstly, i am not hoping or seeking for a delay. i am hoping that the issue is never discussed in parliament.

two, as far as i am concerned there is NO problem. why should i then want to solve something that does not exist ??

yes, i agree the SG sacking is an issue. it is not a problem tho. this issue must be resolved within the confines of the bcci and shud not go to parliament. do u disagree on that ??

and finally, since i see no problem i do not think it right to consider myself a coward for not willing to solve it.

tch tch
then u dont understand the problem at all.
SG is simply an instance of a generic class of problems. The problem is the insensitive way we treat our heroes. The problem is the a of clowns who call themselves selectors. The problem is the lack of transparency in BCCI affairs.
And I dont think BCCI, on its own, will be able to solve it. I know parliament is meant for discussing "more important" problems; but this is something in which millions of people involve themselves. If BCCI is not doing anything, then let Parliament do something, thanks to this high profile case.
Cowards are still there; I didnt say you are one of them

oho so this is a problem of moral policing ?? the law-makers who have in the past policed us about a range of issues varying from PMS to Valentine's Day celebrations should now teach us how to treat our heroes sensitively ??

Anyway, I do think SG's sacking was justified and if that meant he was being treated insensitively then so be it. The well-being of the team is more important than the sensitivity shown to an individual.

I don't agree that the selectors should necessarily be clowns. There have been irrational decisions in the past. In this case, I think the decision is not quite so preposterous.

You want transparency in the BCCI affairs - well I wish there was in the ideal scenario; but believe me there will never be complete transparency. What's more, if the real story behind all this sordid saga comes out, you will be left wishing there was no transparency.

I think the BCCI is making some efforts to straighten out the whole issue. First Sharad Pawar talked to More, Chappell and Dravid (and even Tendulkar I think) and then he specifically called upon Ganguly to have a chat with him. I think that is the right way to go about things. than go to Parliament over it.

And what is this rant about cowards anyway ???

good point onkar.I agree with u we continue to treat our heroes badly. It is ganguly today. It was the likes of azhar , venkat , vishwanath before him.Who knows it might be kumbe or laxman tom.Accountability is still missing in our board and system

BCCI trying to straighten up???
LOL =))
anyways, just one point of contention (coz rest all is subjective). why should we drop SG?? coz he gave good_by_rational_standards contributions of 40 odd scores in both innings??

For cricketing reasons alone, SG did not deserve to be dropped after Delhi. But I believe the reasons were non-cricketing and I agreed with them.

It is all a moot point now however. Since he has been selected for the Pak tour, it just goes to prove that there is a continuous manipulation going on and nothing is quite black and white.

However hopefully it is less likely to affect the team now that SG is just another player and not the captain.
