So, officially play has been washed out for the day. It looked initially that we might get a little bit in, but around 10.30 IST the Baaz showered its blessings upon the Chidambaram and that, as they say was that. If it rains in this manner much longer, it is extremely likely that tomorrow will be washed out even if it clears by then.
We will have to keep waiting then for the suspense over Ganguly's inclusion in the squad to be over. From what has transpired in the last two days, it is likely that Sourav will in fact take the field. Yuvraj will have to wait.
Also, the wet weather will imply that the captain who wins the toss is likely to opt to bowl first, not just out of respect to conditions, but also because the stop-start nature of the game is likely to make batting difficult. Hence, we will opt for a third seamer and that implies Ganguly will play.

I don't understand why would one even have this dilemma over "yuvraj" or "sourav".
Sourav is wayyyy better than yuvraj in the test arena. Just for comparison, in the last 12 months, following are their score strings when both were playing in the team: (so that cancels out factors like opposition attack, or pitch or weather etc)
yuvraj: 5 27 8 7* 12 25 (avg 16.8)
sourav: 45 5 9 101 16 (avg. 35.2)
I didn't go beyond that because, well, people belive more in "current form". (Actually, before that, Sourav has an even better record)
So why would one want to include yuvraj over sourav? Just because yuvi was in great form in ODI's? (that's a crap of an argument. ODI and tests are totally different levels. Don't we include VVS in test side?)
Or is it just because "sourav-bashing" is à la mode?
well it is not just how much the player has scored in the past, but how much he is likely to score.
players success in odi cricket has been a harbinger to success in test cricket in the past, virender sehwag being a prime example.
sourav-bashing has nothing to do with it
