Yep, the time has come to strip down ODI cricket to just that... plain value-for-money revenue generation machine and let the real stuff be in the Test matches. There's no point in giving much credit to ODIs these days.
I am not particularly interested by this form of game...I think it won't be "real" cricket...agreed that it might increase the popularity and viewership in short term...but only at the cost of cricket!
Actually it can work the other way... people will soon realise how hollow and silly any ODI/ Twenty20 match is, and how divinely great Test matches are, thus reviving the interest in Tests.
